299 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Defence the number of reviews and studies undertaken by consultants or ordered from within his Department since he became Minister; the purpose of each of these studies; the action, if any, which has followed since completion; and the cost of each review or study. [2076/97]

The number of reviews and studies undertaken by consultants since I took office, the purpose of each of these studies, the action taken as a result of the review or study and the cost involved in each case is shown as follows:

Engaged to report on the human and electronic resources needed to implement the EC Regulation setting out the new requirements for fishing vessels operating in Irish Waters.

The topic covered in the Report is the subject of an application to the EU for financial support in the context of a 5 year Fishery Enforcement related programme.

Price Waterhouse Management Consultants£8,292 (funded jointly with the Department of Finance

Retained to utilise their expertise in the areas of strategic and business planning during the drawing up of the Department's S.M.I. Draft Strategy Statement.
