Vol. 473 No. 6

Written Answers. - Aquaculture Licences.

Michael Ring

Question:

304 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine if he will issue six month interim licences to fish farming applicants while they are waiting for the Aquaculture Bill to go through Dáil Éireann. [2049/97]

Pending enactment of the Fisheries (Amendment) Bill, which will provide for a new licensing and regulatory framework for aquaculture, licence applications may still be assessed and determined, where appropriate and possible, under the existing statutory regime provided under the Fisheries and Foreshore Acts. Applications currently on hand continue to be dealt with strictly on that basis in the interim period.
