92 Mr. Gallagher (Donegal South West) asked the Minister for Finance whether he is confident that the European constituency of Connaught/Ulster will be designated as an objective 1 region post 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2051/97]
The Government is monitoring and will continue to monitor, all aspects of Ireland's position in relation to eligibility for Structural Funds after 1999 including whether the classification of Ireland as one region for Structural Fund purposes continues to be the best policy. The approach will be aimed at ensuring the optimum outcome in the forthcoming negotiations for the renewal of the Structural Funds after 1999.
