Vol. 474 No. 1

Written Answers. - Animal Welfare.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

147 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice if funding has been provided by her to any animal welfare group during the course of the current Government; if so, the amount granted; when it was paid; and to whom it was paid. [2477/97]

There is close co-operation between the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Garda authorities. The gardaí in various stations throughout the Dublin area make regular use of the society's back-up facilities and expertise, particularly in the area of cruelty to animals.

Grants amounting to £7,500 were paid to the DSPCA during the period 16 December 1994 to 31 December 1996 as follows: 1994 £500; 1995 £3,000; 1996 £4,000.
