Vol. 474 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wheelchair Accessible Buses.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

184 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if it is government policy that wheelchair accessible buses are used by CIÉ and other bus companies; and if so, the reason two such buses are currently mothballed at Summerhill Garage, Dublin. [2495/97]

It is the Government's policy that public transport operators should endeavour to make their services as accessible as possible to people with mobility impairments, having regard to the resources at their disposal.

The deployment of vehicles available to transport undertakings, including those to which the Deputy refers, is a matter for transport operators and I have no function in that regard.
