Vol. 474 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Liam Aylward

Question:

58 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance the progress, if any, which has been made towards the provision of a new Garda station at Thomastown, County Kilkenny, in view of the fact that it is generally accepted that this is a priority case and needs urgent attention; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2464/97]

Question:

63 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if he will have arrangements made with the Office of Public Works to have a site made available as soon as possible for the provision of a new Garda station at Thomastown in County Kilkenny; the sites which are available; the progress made to date towards the acquisition of a particular site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2437/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 63 together.

Three sites which were identified as possible locations for a new Garda station at Thomastown proved on examination to be unsuitable. The Commissioners of Public Works are arranging an examination of a further property which may be suitable for the provision of a new station. I will advise the Deputy of the outcome as soon as it is known.
