Vol. 474 No. 2

Written Answers. - EU Instruments.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

54 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht whether he will meet with a delegation from Erris Co-Op in relation to its concerns about the widespread designation of lands in north Mayo arising under the EU Habitat Directive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2687/97]

The Deputy will appreciate that it would be difficult for me to personally meet every group that has expressed concern about the implementation of the Habitats Directive.

However, if the co-op would care to contact my office, arrangements can be made for them to meet officials of the national parks and wildlife service of my Department, who are familiar with the details of what is proposed and how the protection of special areas of conservation (SACs) will operate.
