Vol. 474 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Amalgamation.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

70 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education the number of schools amalgamated in each of the years from 1990 to 1996; the annual budget which was set aside to assist them in their conversions; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2660/97]

The details requested by the Deputy are contained in the following list which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

No specific budget is set aside to meet the cost of school amalgamation at either primary or post-primary level. Additional costs arising from amalgamation in respect of areas such as the provision of extra school accommodation or new transport services are met from the overall budgets provided for those areas of expenditure.
