Vol. 474 No. 2

Written Answers. - Citizenship Applications.

Ivor Callely

Question:

87 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the consideration, if any, which has been given to establishing an independent appeals forum for people who are aggrieved by decisions of her Department regarding citizenship or naturalisation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2710/97]

The relevant legislation provides that certificates of naturalisation are granted at the absolute discretion of the Minister for Justice. It is open to any applicant who has been refused a certificate of naturalisation to resubmit an application for consideration with any new or additional supporting information or documentation.
