Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Hyland

Question:

150 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Education if she will provide sufficient funding in 1997 to deal with a serious roof defect at Scoil Mhuire, Abbeyleix, County Laois, in view of the fact that, as a result of water leaking through the ceilings, one ceiling has already collapsed, that there are further signs of dangerous deterioration in another room and that any further neglect of this serious problem will lead to increased expenditure in providing a new roof; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3300/97]

Charles Flanagan

Question:

152 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the problem at Scoil Mhuire primary school, Abbeyleix, County Laois, where a leaking roof has resulted in pupils having to vacate classrooms; and if the roof will be replaced as a matter of urgency in view of the fact that the school was constructed in 1984 and is badly in need of urgent repairs. [2771/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 150 and 152 together.

I am aware of the need for remedial works to be carried out to the roof of Scoil Mhuire primary school, Abbeyleix, County Laois. This is one of a number of urgent projects I am considering for funding in this year's Estimates. When a decision has been taken, it will be conveyed to the school.
