265 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total number of acreage planted under afforestation programmes, both private and public, in County Cork in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3012/97]

It will be noted that the level of private planting, mostly undertaken by farmers, has increased with the introduction of the CAP afforestation scheme.

All planting must comply with the Department's environmental guidelines.
