Question:

64 Miss Coughlan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of public servants in areas falling within the remit of his Department who are currently on career breaks; and the number who have been waiting over two months to return to work. [2964/97]

There are 21 officers from the Department of Foreign Affairs currently on career breaks, one of whom is waiting over two months to return to duty.

In addition, there are 39 officers at present on special leave without pay to serve in EU-UN and other international organisations. No officer from this group is waiting to return to duty.

There are no officers from the Office of the Tánaiste on career breaks.
