Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Petrol-Diesel Prices in Northern Ireland.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

69 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if he will publish the figures in relation to petrol and diesel prices in Northern Ireland which allowed the Taoiseach, during the debate on the Financial Resolutions, to justify that there was still a differential between northern and southern prices to the advantage of southern buyers. [2820/97]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the relevant price figures are as set out as follows.

All amounts shown are based on retail prices per litre observed in Dublin and Newry; at two and four outlets respectively — during the week ended 12 January 1997 and are displayed in Irish currency using the AIB tourist conversion rate of IR£ = Sterling £0.9545 applied in the State on 14 January 1997.

In estimating the post-budget prices, it is assumed that the budget increases were added in full to the prices observed during the week ending 12 January 1997 and at the exchange rate on 14 January 1997.
