Question:

77 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if Dáil, Seanad or ministerial pensions will be withdrawn from holders who are elected to assemblies outside the active control of the State, namely the House of Commons, Northern Ireland forum and others; if he will consider an amendment to the existing regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy will be aware from my reply to his question of 18 June 1996 that there is no provision allowing for the withdrawal of Oireachtas or ministerial pensions in the circumstances outlined in the question. I do not see any compelling reason for the withdrawal of such pensions in these circumstances and, accordingly, I have no plans to do so.
