Vol. 474 No. 4

Written Answers. - Discharge from Defence Forces.

Brian Lenihan

Question:

157 Mr. Lenihan asked the Minister for Defence if he will waive or reduce the purchase price for discharge from the Defence Forces for a trainee member (details supplied) on compassionate and humanitarian grounds in view of the specific circumstances as already supplied; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3194/97]

Defence Force regulations prescribe the amount payable by the various categories of enlisted persons in respect of their discharge by purchase from the permanent Defence Force. In the case in question the prescribed cost of his discharge is £2,000 based on his service as an apprentice. The regulations are of general application and exceptions are not made.
