Vol. 474 No. 4

Written Answers. - Alteration of Documentation.

Máirín Quill

Question:

23 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for his Department's alteration of documentation in February 1991 in the Emerald Meats matter. [3174/97]

The matter involves an application for a 1991 GATT import licence by a firm other than Emerald Meats. The firm involved submitted its application before the deadline for the submission of applications. When it was subsequently being vetted, it was discovered that certain points of information had been omitted from the original application and the applicant was allowed to make an amendment to the original application to clarify that it had not lodged an application in any other member state and that the country of origin of the beef was Australia. Two amended documents giving this information were submitted to the Department and associated with the original application. The date of original application was superimposed on one of them in order to maintain correlation between all the documents. These three documents all formed the application.
