Vol. 474 No. 4

Written Answers. - Control of Farm Pollution.

Brendan Smith

Question:

28 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the widespread concern in relation to the suspension of the control of farm pollution scheme; the proposals, if any, he has to have the scheme reopened for new applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3159/97]

James Leonard

Question:

80 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when he will restore control of farm pollution grants in view of the demand in this regard. [3035/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 28 and 80 together.

As stated in Partnership 2000, it is the Government's intention to give priority to reintroduction of the control of farm pollution scheme if additional funds become available at the midterm review of the Structural Funds.

Partnership 2000 also indicated that provision would be made by way of improved capital allowances for a targeted and monitored measure to support investment by farmers in necessary pollution control measures. Details of the scheme, which was announced by the Minister for Finance in his budget speech, will be available shortly from the Revenue Commissioners.
