Written Answers. - Post-graduate Resource Centre for General Practice.

Ivor Callely

Question:

98 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health if he intends to establish a new post-graduate centre to oversee general practice research and education; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3291/97]

Limerick East): I have approved the establishment of a Postgraduate Resource Centre for General Practice which will be run by the Irish College of General Practitioners under the auspices of the Post-graduate Medical and Dental Board.

The purpose of the centre will be to co-ordinate and develop all facets of post-graduate education for general practitioners in this country. A national director has been appointed to the centre and will be taking up duty on 1 April this year. Arrangements for the provision of accommodation for the centre are currently in hand.
