Vol. 474 No. 4

Written Answers. - Access for Disabled.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

111 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that funding (details supplied) set aside for works to be carried out to buildings to enable easier access for people with disabilities is allocated to the authorities concerned without delay and thus continuing to ensure that the State is acknowledging its responsibility to ensure equality of status to those with disabilities. [3274/97]

Question:

122 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in having payment made to a school (details supplied) in County Cork for works carried out to enable easier access for people with disabilities; and if her attention has been drawn to the fact that some students attending this school are wheelchairbound and that the works were completed in September 1996. [3304/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 111 and 122 together.

Payment has been made in full in respect of the work in question. The standard rate of 90 per cent grant aid on the contract sum was issued from my post primary building unit on 12 December 1996 based on the consultant architect's certification of the completion of the works.

Payment of the architect's fees will be issued shortly. No other request for funding in relation to this project has been received from the school to date.
