Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Funding.

Mary Wallace

Question:

163 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the allocation for 1997 for the designated schools for children with disabilities; the number of schools which will receive this funding; and if she intends to create new designated schools. [3523/97]

As indicated in the White Paper on Education, Charting our Education Future, a number of ordinary primary schools will be designated by the proposed education boards as centres where students with particular disabilities may be educated.

Proposals for the establishment of the education boards are included in the recently published Education Bill, 1997.

Arrangements for the selection and designation of schools and the provision of any necessary funding or other special resources will be pursued in the context of the development of the roles of the education boards once they are established.
