Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Accidents.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

193 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice if he will give the road accident and road fatality statistics for each of the years from 1994 to 1996. [3624/97]

Máirín Quill

Question:

195 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Justice the number of people killed or injured in road accidents in counties Carlow, Clare, Cork, Dublin, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Limerick, Louth, Sligo, north Tipperary and Wicklow in each of the past five years. [3521/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 193 and 195 together.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the information requested by the Deputy is not readily available and could be compiled only by the diversion to the task of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources.

Information in relation to all road traffic accidents reported to the Garda authorities is supplied by the Garda to the National Roads Authority. A detailed annual report on road accidents is prepared and published by that Authority.
