Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Patrick J. Morley

Question:

251 Mr. Morley asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if the proposed executive unit responsible for all EU agriculture expenditure, including FEOGA payments, which is due to be headquartered in his Department's offices in Davitt House, Castlebar, County Mayo, will be transferred to Johnstown Castle as suggested in a recent weekly publication. [3691/97]

In accordance with the Government's decision, my Department will be decentralising 350 personnel to Johnstown Castle.

The intervention operations unit i.e. export refunds, intervention and aids, subsidies and levies has been selected to be located in Wexford. In addition the appropriate personnel, information system, professional and ancillary services will also be decentralised. There never was any decision that the intervention unit be located in Castlebar. A final decision has not been made on the remaining areas to be decentralised. Final decisions have not been made on executive units or their composition.
