Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Resignation Application.

Michael Bell

Question:

274 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the current number of resignation requests in respect of officers of both the Permanent and Reserve Defence Forces; when such requests will be determined; and the ranks, command and formation of those concerned. [3454/97]

There are at present no applications to resign from officers of the Permanent Defence Force on hands in my Department. With regard to the Reserve Defence Force the position is that applications from officers to resign their commissions are processed by means of a memorandum for Government which is submitted on a quarterly basis. The next such memorandum will be submitted at the end of March 1997. To date, my Department has received only one application which will be included in that memorandum. The application is from an officer of second-lieutenant rank who is serving with 8 Infantry Battalion FCA, Eastern Command.
