Question:

284 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Defence if he will give a breakdown of the amount his Department has received or is due to receive from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry in payment for Border allowances and rations while involved in the BSE operation on the Border from 25 March to September 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Question:

285 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Defence if he will give a breakdown of the amount his Department has received or is due to receive from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry in payment for the service, maintenance, fuel and running costs involved in the use of military service vehicles on BSE patrols on the Border from 25 March to September 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3541/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 284 and 285 together. The Department of Defence does not receive any money from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry in respect of anti-BSE patrols carried out by the Defence Forces. The cost involved is borne by the Defence Vote.
