Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Costs.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

32 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Defence the total amount of money expended on consultancies in the past two years; the total number of reports from these consultancies; and the cost of such reports. [1497/97]

Total expenditure on consultants in the past two years was £449,813, of which £35,800 was refunded to the Department by the European Union. The bulk of this money was paid to consultancies for professional services ranging from engineering design services to personnel selection. Only three formal reports were commissioned at a total cost of around £60,000. One report related to computerisation in the Naval Service. Two others were produced in connection with the strategic management initiative in the Department. Consultancy services to the efficiency audit group were paid for by the Department of the Taoiseach.
