Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Donegal Pier.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

54 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine whether funding will be made available in 1997 to provide a new pier at Killybegs, County Donegal. [2853/97]

An independent analysis of requirements at Killybegs fishery harbour has been completed. I commissioned the consultancy report last year to assess the capability, and medium to long-term infrastructural requirements, of the port to service the needs of the fishing industry in the north west. I am satisfied that significant infrastructural investment is needed at Killybegs. Informed by the findings of the report, I will be pursuing the case for additional funding in the context of the midterm review of EU Structural Funds and elsewhere as necessary.
