Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Máirín Quill

Question:

109 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Health his views regarding the urgent need to put in place electro muscle gram facilities at Cork University Hospital, if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the existing unit is out of order; if he intends to provide funding for replacement equipment at a cost of £100,000; if so, when this allocation will be made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3634/97]

Limerick East): In January 1997, the Southern Health Board notified my Department that the electro muscle gram equipment at Cork University Hospital has been out of order intermittently over the past few months. Preliminary discussions have taken place between my Department's officials and the hospital authorities on this issue and I understand the board has now listed the replacement of the electro muscle gram equipment as one of its priorities for funding in 1997. The proposal is being considered in the context of the board's overall priorities and the many competing demands within my Department for capital equipment needs.
