Vol. 474 No. 8

Written Answers. - Defence Vote Delegation.

Michael Bell

Question:

122 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the level and extent of financial delegation to the military authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4081/97]

In 1994 a programme of financial delegation to the military authorities commenced. In 1996 a total of £58 million expenditure from the Defence Vote was delegated. When military pay and non-military expenditure are excluded, delegated expenditure represents approximately 55 per cent of the balance of expenditure from the Defence Vote. A further tranche of financial delegation will take place this year.
