Written Answers. - Second Commission on the Status of Women Report.

Michael McDowell

Question:

18 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the number of meetings held by the monitoring committee on the implementations of the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women in 1996; and when he expects to receive the committee's next progress report. [4512/97]

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

39 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the number of the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women which have been implemented to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4491/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 39 together.

The monitoring committee on the implementation of the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women met on two occasions in 1996. The second report of the committee was published in March 1996.

As can be seen from the report almost 80 per cent of the recommendations have been acted upon with 47 per cent of the recommendations implemented in full. Some of the recommendations which remain to be implemented are directed to organisations which are not within the influence of Government.

As indicated in my reply of 18 December 1996, I have asked the committee to consider producing a report by the end of 1997.
