Vol. 475 No. 2

Written Answers. - State Board Appointments.

Robert Molloy

Question:

28 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the current situation in relation to appointments to State boards; if gender balance provisions are being implemented; and the person responsible for implementing policy. [4513/97]

The most recent information in relation to membership on State boards is that women constitute 26.15 per cent of the total membership and 34.04 per cent of ministerial/governmental nominees. The corresponding figures in 1992 were 15 per cent and 17 per cent, respectively.

All Ministers have been asked to comply with Government policy on achieving a gender balance on State boards. Each Minister is responsible for ensuring that this policy is carried out in his or her own area.
