Vol. 475 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Traffic Management.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

87 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment the current status of Operation Freeflow; if his attention has been drawn to increased traffic congestion in Dublin city in the past week; and the proposals, if any, he has for dealing with this problem on an ongoing basis. [4803/97]

At a meeting on 15 January with representatives of all of the agencies which contributed to the planning and successful implementation of the first phase of Operation Freeflow, I was assured of the commitment of all of the agencies to the continuation of the operation in the city centre and was advised that plans for the next phase were being developed. I understand that the Dublin Transportation Office, which is co-ordinating the preparation of these plans, will present them to me shortly. The day-to-day management of traffic in the city continues, of course, to be matter for Dublin Corporation and the Garda.
