Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Mary Harney

Question:

199 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to increase grant aid to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 22 to enable it to proceed with some necessary improvement works such as roof renovations, furniture replacements and security upgrades; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4884/97]

I take it the Deputy's question relates to the grant scheme under which national schools will receive a basic grant of £2,000, plus £9 per pupil, to carry out improvement works to their buildings, services and furnishings. This is the first year of operation of the scheme and I have no plans to increase the level of the grants.

It is a matter for the school to which the Deputy refers to prioritise its works programme in accordance with the funding available.
