Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

213 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the current situation regarding the application by St. Mac Dara's Community College for a physical education hall; whether the necessary funding has been allocated for this project; the anticipated timescale involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5073/97]

Provision has been made in the 1997 capital programme for the construction of a physical education hall at St. Mac Dara's Community College. The present position is that the architectural planning of the project is proceeding and the planning and building unit of my Department is examining the outline sketch scheme. When the scheme has been found to be satisfactory, the project will proceed to the next stage of planning which is the developed sketch scheme.

The project will continue to be accorded a high priority in my Department and every effort will be made to ensure that the planning of the project is completed as quickly as possible with a view to inviting tenders immediately and building starting forthwith.

Robert Molloy

Question:

215 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request to receive a deputation from the manager and parents at Collinamuck national school, County Galway; if so, if she will accede to this request; when such a meeting will take place; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5075/97]

A request to receive a deputation of the manager and parents of the school to which the Deputy refers was received in my office. Due to my current diary commitments, I am unable to make arrangements for such a meeting.

However, I am acutely aware of the accommodation needs of this school. The documentation required to invite tenders for this building project is complete and the project is among those I will consider for phased release to tender later in the year.
