Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Amalgamation of Schools.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

227 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Education the reason for the lack of progress on the amalgamation of Lismore CBS and Presentation primary school, Lismore, County Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5245/97]

Agreement has been reached to amalgamate the two primary schools in Lismore. The timing of the amalgamation is dependent on the provision of an extension to the presentation convent school. The planning of this extension is at an advanced stage.

The question of the level of additional classroom accommodation to be provided for the amalgamated school is being reviewed in the planning section of my Department at present, as the school authorities consider that an additional classroom is required in the extension.

My Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as this review is completed.
