Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Allowances.

Brendan Smith

Question:

279 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the delay in issuing a particular allowance to members of the Defence Forces (details supplied); if this payment will issue at an early date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5167/97]

I assume the question refers to the claim presented by PDFORRA for the payment of subsistence allowance to certain members of the Permanent Defence Force who took part in security operations during the period January 1992 to May 1992. The question of the entitlement of these personnel to the payment of subsistence allowance in respect of these operations is presently the subject of legal proceedings and you will appreciate, therefore, that as the matter is sub judice it would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this time.
