Question:78 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Taoiseach the amount of subvention paid for the provision of the Galway city to Aran Islands ferry service in each of the years from 1991 to 1996. [4989/97]

Prior to 20 March 1996, when responsibility for the provision of the cargo-passenger service from Galway city to the Aran Islands transferred to my Department, the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications paid subventions in respect of this service. That Department's records show that the following payments were made for each year from April 1991 to March 1996: 1991, £337,500; 1992, £450,000; 1993, £475,000; 1994, £650,000; 1995, £550,000; 1996, £131,250.
From April 1996 to December 1996 my Department paid a total subvention of £412,500 in respect of this service.
