Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - RTC Dispute.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

144 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education when a settlement is likely regarding the rates of pay of a group of ten craftspersons employed in regional technical colleges. [3433/97]

The Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union wrote to my Department recently seeking a meeting to discuss the wages — salaries of ten technicians — craftsmen working in Regional Technical Colleges throughout the country.

The union was informed that, in accordance with normal industrial relations procedures, it should first meet with the regional technical college management side to present and discuss its claim.

I understand that the union has been in contact with regional technical college management services and that arrangements are being made for a meeting between both sides in the near future.

Until these negotiations take place it is impossible to give an estimate as to when a settlement might be reached.
