Vol. 475 No. 6

Written Answers. - Foster Care Procedures.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

99 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health the guidelines and procedures which are adhered to by the health boards in their assessment of foster families in view of an investigation currently under way into a case (details supplied); whether these guidelines are being reviewed in view of this investigation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5583/97]

Health boards apply detailed pre-placement procedures in the assessment of foster parents as set out in the Child Care (Placement of Children in Foster Care) Regulations, 1995. These regulations also contain provisions for the monitoring of children placed in foster care, including supervision and visiting of children by authorised persons.

I have no plans at present to review the content of these regulations.
