Vol. 475 No. 6

Written Answers. - Intoxicating Liquor Laws.

Seán Doherty

Question:

57 Mr. Doherty asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to amend the intoxicating liquor laws. [5425/97]

Austin Deasy

Question:

87 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has to change the licensing laws; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5474/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 87 together.

The Deputies will be aware that the Select Committee on Legislation and Security and the Competition Authority are currently reviewing all the licensing laws.

When the reports of the Select Committee and the Competition Authority are published, any recommendations they may make in relation to the liquor licensing laws will be given detailed consideration in my Department.

The Deputies may be interested to know that earlier this month the Government approved the drafting of the Licensing (Drugs) Bill, 1997, to deal with drug abuse on licensed premises.
