Vol. 475 No. 7

Written Answers. - Traveller Accommodation.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

128 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider making the development of halting sites by local authorities subject to the planning process in view of the legal and other difficulties being experienced in the south Dublin area in implementing a phased programme for accommodating travellers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6063/97]

This matter is among the items being considered in the context of the preparation of legislation to facilitate implementation of the national strategy on traveller accommodation. The proposals are being finalised at present with a view to seeking Government approval to the drafting of a Bill at the earliest possible date.
