221 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of sexual harassment cases which have been brought before the Labour Court in each of the years from 1992 to 1996; and the outcome in each instance. [5924/97]

The following details the number of sexual harassment cases referred to the Labour Court in each of the years from 1992 to 1996 and the outcome of those cases.

— Compensation of £1,000 and £3,000 was awarded in two cases.

— Five cases were settled or withdrawn.

— Three cases were dismissed.

1993

— Compensation of £4,000 and £5,000 was awarded in two cases.

— Two cases were dismissed.

— An appeal for implementation of an Equality Officer's recommendation was upheld. The Equality Officer's recommendation included an award of £6,000 compensation to the claimant.

1994

— All cases were settled or withdrawn.

1995

—Compensation of £3,000 was awarded in one case.

— Four cases were settled or withdrawn.

— One case was dismissed.

1996

— Compensation of £2,000 was awarded in one case.

— Seven cases were settled or withdrawn.

— Four cases are awaiting a hearing.
