Vol. 475 No. 7

Written Answers. - Boyne Salmon Fishery.

Mary Wallace

Question:

268 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Marine if he will meet with representatives of the Boyne draft net fishermen as a matter of urgency in view of the drastic impact of the Salmon Task Force Committee recommendations on their livelihoods. [5918/97]

The expressed concerns of draftnet fishermen and others engaged in the estuarial salmon fishery are currently being assessed. In that context a local catchment management approach to the specific and localised impacts of the new salmon conservation measures is being actively encouraged. As part of that process a meeting of the Boyne fishermen with the Minister of State will be facilitated to discuss such an approach.
