Vol. 475 No. 7

Written Answers. - Broadcasting Services.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

100 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if his policy on broadcasting for the future involves the use of cables, MMDS, deflector or digital television; the preferred system for local television; and if he will make a statement on his plans to implement this policy. [5786/97]

My proposals for broadcasting legislation, which I have submitted to Government for consideration, deal comprehensively with the structures, role and function for broadcasting services in this country. I hope to be in a position to publish my proposals soon.

As the Deputy is aware radio frequency management, on which the technical provision of such services relies, is the responsibility of my colleague, the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications.
