Vol. 476 No. 1

Written Answers. - Beef Premium Quota Rights.

Joe Walsh

Question:

107 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total national special beef premium quota rights for 1996 and 1997; the total number of applications for the special beef premium scheme in 1996; and the estimated number of applications for 1997. [6387/97]

The regional ceilings for special beef premium for Ireland as given in Art 4b3 (a) Council Regulation (EEC) No. 805/68 are as follows:

1996

1,286,521

1997

1,002,458

Approximately 215,400 applications were submitted for special beef premium in 1996 in respect of 1.18 million animals for the ten months premium and 1.02 million animals for the 22 months premium. It is estimated that the number of animals submitted for special beef premium will be slightly lower in 1997 because farmers were permitted to submit a fourth special beef premium application in December 1996.
