Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

13 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the outcome of the latest study by a consultant on the Luas light rail scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6896/97]

It is difficult to establish precisely what information the Deputy is seeking. As the Deputy is well aware there are consultants employed on an ongoing basis by CIE on various aspects of the light rail project. I have no function in relation to these.

In my Department, consultants are employed to provide ongoing advice related to monitoring and safety aspects of the overall project. I have asked Mr. M. Doyle to prepare a synopsis for me on issues relating to the light rail project.

The outcome of these studies is to prepare me and my Department to deal with the application for a light railway.
