Vol. 476 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Port.

Ivor Callely

Question:

153 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine his views on the likely employment trends in Dublin Port over the next number of years; the issues which may impact upon these employment trends; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7191/97]

On 3 March 1997, Dublin Port was vested as a new commercial semi-State company, Dublin Port Company. While the State is the sole shareholder, the company will have the freedom to manage the port on a more commercial basis than heretofore. There are 450 people directly employed by Dublin Port Company.

The company will keep its numbers employed under constant review and will account for its operational and financial performance on a regular basis.
