Vol. 476 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bull Island Coastal Protection.

Ivor Callely

Question:

155 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine his views on dune management and the protection of the islands status of Bull Island, Dublin 3, in relation to the 1997 coastal protection works under the operational programme for environmental services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7206/97]

Under the Coastal Protection Sub-Programme of the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-99 some £1 million is being invested annually on undertaking targeted coastal protection works. The intent of the investments being made under the sub-programme is the protection of property, including beach and dune networks, from coastal erosion. Should the local authority wish to make a submission to my Department in relation to the need for coastal protection works on Bull Island, I will consider the matter over the remaining years of the sub-programme.
