Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Courts Accommodation.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

119 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Justice if she has received a report on Castleblayney Courthouse, County Monaghan; when funding will be provided to refurbish it; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7820/97]

My Department has received an engineer's report on the structure of Castleblayney courthouse from the local authority. This report indicates that work to the structure of the building is urgently required. The county council have undertaken some minor works to allow court sittings to continue in the courthouse. In relation to the necessary structural works my Department is considering what other works or improvements are required to the courthouse before proceeding to detailed planning for the project in the short term. They have also been requested to seek suitable alternative accommodation in Castleblayney for court sittings.

The Deputy will appreciate that it would not be possible at this stage to set out a timescale for the project.
