Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ministerial Staff.

Ivor Callely

Question:

140 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the total cost of non-civil servants and other such staff attached to his office for each of the years 1980, 1988, 1990, 1995 and 1996; and the estimated cost for 1997. [7866/97]

As the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications only came into being in 1993, I am only able to provide information in relation to costs of advisory staff from that date. These costs, inclusive of employer's PRSI, are as follows:

Year

Total Cost

£

1995

103,152

1996

116,856

1997 (12 month estimate)

125,612

The cost of non-civil service staff attached to the office of the Minister for each of these years is as follows:

£

1980

Nil

The costs of staff employed for the years 1995 to 1997 are shared jointly between Defence and Marine reflecting my dual ministerial role. The above figures represent half the full costs for each year.
