Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Noel Davern

Question:

89 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for the Environment the requests, if any, he has received from Tipperary South Riding County Council to receive a deputation to discuss the realignment of the road and widening of the bridge at Lanespark, Ballynonty, County Tipperary; if he intends to meet with the deputation; if so, when; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7780/97]

I received a request from Tipperary South Riding County Council last week to receive a deputation to discuss the work in question. The council have indicated that they intend to apply for funding for this project in 1998 under the EU co-financed scheme of specific improvement grants. My decision in relation to the selection of projects under that scheme will depend on their compliance with strict EU eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise certain projects, the demands for local authorities generally and the overall funds available for the scheme in 1998. A meeting with a county council deputation would not advance matters at this stage and the request will be responded to accordingly.
